An Immersive Escape in Piemonte

Trip Recap by Olivia Gawronski, Sales Manager at Calliope Collective

Calliope Collective is a curation of independent luxury hotels, villas, and golf resorts that offer discerning travelers the finest experiences that result in ultimate travel memories.

The rolling hills of Piemonte greeted me with a serene elegance as I arrived at Casa di Langa. Sunlight danced across vineyards and olive groves, with the crisp air hinting at the region’s natural abundance. Stepping into the refined comfort of the property, I immediately felt the thoughtful embrace of Italian hospitality, where sustainability and luxury go hand-in-hand. The ambiance was defined by organic finishes and panoramic views — a gentle invitation to slow down and savor each moment. My room was modern yet extremely warm and inviting at the same time. Lined with gorgeous warm woods, terracotta, stone, and a balcony overlooking the mountains in the distance and one of the gardens on property.

After settling in, I enjoyed a light lunch at Fàula Ristorante, the hotel’s restaurant committed to sustainability with ingredients sourced from its own garden adjacent to the dining room. The culinary team cultivates a medley of vegetables, edible flowers, herbs, tomatoes, and cabbage — all grown on the property — and a greenhouse dedicated to aromatic plants. Each bite reflected the garden’s bounty, elevated by the creativity of the kitchen.

Following lunch, I indulged in some well-deserved relaxation at the spa, allowing the stresses of travel to melt away in tranquil surroundings. I took full advantage of the luxurious amenities offered at the spa including the sauna and whirlpool. By late afternoon, a guided wine tasting provided a perfect introduction to the local varietals, with every pour telling a story of Piemonte’s rich terroir and winemaking tradition. Barolo and Barbaresco, two of the region’s most celebrated wines, each named after the nearby towns from which they originate, were abundant throughout the tasting, and certainly opened up my eyes to a whole new world of red wines.

As evening arrived, I enjoyed dinner again at Fàula Ristorante, where the richness of Piedmontese cuisine was showcased in every course. Thoughtfully prepared dishes and attentive service made the meal feel both celebratory and deeply rooted in the region’s culinary heritage.

The next morning began with a guided tour of Alba, led by our wonderful General Manager, Eva Codina. Meandering through charming streets, I soaked up the vibrant atmosphere of the International White Truffle Fair and the small-town local feel of the town of Alba while stopping in some shops. The excitement in town was palpable, with chefs, local vendors, and gourmands all coming together in celebration of this prized delicacy. Along with being the truffle capital of Italy, this area is also greatly well known for being a hub for Hazelnuts, being the home of the Ferrero Group. Throughout the festival I got to have a little taste of truffle and hazelnut in various forms, sprinkled on pasta, cheese and even took some samplings of hazelnut spread home with me!

After lunch, I ventured through woodland trails for an immersive truffle hunting experience. Accompanied by the expert guide and her truffle hunting fluffy expert by her side, Coco. I learned firsthand about the traditions that make Piemonte’s truffles world-renowned at the truffle festival and was now able to experience on my own the science behind where to find the truffles and what makes them grow so perfectly, and how they go about finding them year after year. I found a handful of black truffles and two white truffles, which I learned were the gold mine of truffles! By late afternoon, the Lelòse Spa beckoned once more. Indulgent facials and massage treatments provided the ideal way to unwind.

After my spa treatment I had one last Piemonte meal to enjoy which took me to a local authentic charming spot right next to an old historic castle, called Vinoteca Centro Storico which was about fifteen minutes aways from the property. The atmosphere was wonderfully local, and I even found myself seated next to the winemaker whose Barolo I was enjoying, produced at his own nearby winery. I loved the wine so much that I purchased a bottle, and he graciously signed it for me – a memorable and authentically regional touch to the evening.

This visit was so much more than a getaway – it felt like a heartfelt reunion with nature, with local traditions and culinary delicacy’s, and with the genuine warmth of Italian hospitality. I now truly understand what makes this property and the surrounding region so extraordinary. It’s the intimate connection to the land, felt through the family-run wineries, the thoughtful local culinary traditions, and the genuine pride the community has for their home and all it offers to those who visit. Casa Di Langa serves as a peaceful and inspiring home base, allowing you to explore Piemonte at a meaningful pace while feeling fully immersed in its culture, landscape, and warmth. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave.
